    Hey Cathy,
I'm pretty sure you mean Lyrica tablets? ;)

They're used for pain management and/or depression I think. I'm on something similar for pain management. I do get fairly zonked on them during the day at the start of the course but once my body adjusts it's not too bad.

The relief when you get a night's sleep is something else. Sometimes you can be a bit groggy in the morning but when you know what to expect you can get your alarm a bit earlier to give your body time to wake up.

Best of luck & I hope one of the other boardsies will be able to help you with your specific question.

side-effects are potential, not guaranteed. you and your doctor need to work out if the benefits outweighs the risk for yourself.

    Hi,

My pain specialist put me on lyricia about a year ago, he said 100mg 3 times per day for 1 week and then told me to escalate it to 150mg and so on but I got to 300mg and I just cudnt tolerate it any more, I put on lots weight and was doped up to my eyes and had blurred vision and dizzy and getting sick and blacked out but I have other chronic pain friends who are tolerating it very well so everyone is different. So told my pain spec and he changed me to other pain meds and they suiting me very well as I take a lot medication.
Chat to you doctor is my advice.

I was on lyrica for 2 seperate months, first at 100mg a day and then at 150mg a day (I think, it was about a year ago so can't really remember the dosage). Didn't really notice any side effects, maybe a bit more mellow then usual but that might have been just my imagination as I knew it was also used in depression (I was on it as pain management). I found it grand to take and I have had problems tolerating medication in the past (e.g. can't stomach difene at all while valium (was prescribed as a muscle relaxant) made me sleepy). Unfortunatly for me, I found it didn't really improve my symptoms and what little effect it did have, I felt it didn't justify taking medication daily to get that little improvement. Good luck with it though, I hope its brings you relief :).

I got it for my back, I was given Diafien aswell. From what I can see one person is fine, the other is the extreme of it, really bad.Im on 100mg a day.But ,I need to drive so Im taking one after I drop the kids to school and one at night. Its doesnt effect everyone the same is relation to dizzyness, and I wont take a chance.Plus, the idea of putting on weight, while not wanting to sound vain, its just not something I want to do.Its hard enough ccarrying my weight now , I dont need any more thank you very much.:o

I think Im going to give it a couple of weeks max, if I dont see a reliefe, like Eoineo says, a nights sleep is all I want.Im thinking of just taking the difine at night.I have to go back in amonth to see the doctor and discuss the side effects I have experianced and the benifits I have experianced. Thanks for replying all, its good to get opinions on it.Cathy

    +1

My mother had the dizziness & the blurred eyesight (she actually has special eye drops to combat the effects of the lyrica).
I had the dizziness/light headedness & weight gain. After a while the side effects were affecting my mental health and I wasn't getting much positives out of the meds so after speaking to my doctor I came off them.

It really is different depending on dosage, each person, what else you're on, what frame of mind you're in. And then you have to weigh up that against the positives, and discuss with your doctor.

Im on 500mg a day for pain. I didnt start at 500 tho.
When i started i had all of the above bar the weight gain.
Got used to the tabs and dnt have the side affects, but since i jumped from 250-300 to 500 my weight shot up, but i was also on other meds.
Id say i wouldnt have put on as much weight only for being on other meds aswell. HTH.

The dystonia looks scary. Is it only when you sleep.I dont want to go over 200mg a day.So wont.Hopefully that should help with any side effects. Thanks so much for taking the time to answer:).Cathy

cathy, while you should be well-informed about your meds, be aware that, as i said above, side-effects are potential side-effects, you may have none at all. every person's experience will be different, depending on age/sex/other medical conditions/other meds etc

Cathy, was on them for a bit for of MS pain, had to change due to liver interaction with my betaferon. Made me a bit sleepy with red wine, that was it. (oh, little bit "windy" too :p )

god no, no offence whatsoever. :)
im just pointing out that people can get a lot of info online and from other sources that may be very sensationalist and scary.... tbh, if you read everything available and believed it you'd probably end up with a very restricted list of things you could/would take, incl everyday foodstuffs!

dont get freaked out by what you see, is all im saying

it comes down to the potential benefits and risks for each individual

i'm on 300mg of Lyrica twice a day for the past 6 years for Epilepsy.
I did not put on any weight even though on a really high dose.

the side effects I did get were the normal tiredness with that dosage of pills for epilepsy, and up until only recently (the past 6months) VERY bad migraine.

I'm comin down off it now due to the migraine, and it didnt work for controlling my seizures anyway.
