Thought this deserved it's own thread..
You know that faceoff between Office managers David Brent and Michael Scott that’s supposedly been in the works for, um, ever? Looks like it’s actually, finally gonna happen!

Sources confirm that Ricky Gervais is poised to reprise his role from the original overseas version of the comedy in an upcoming episode of the U.S. redo. As you’d expect, details are sketchy. But what I’m being told is that Gervais — who not only created the British Office but retains an exec producer title on the American remake — will cross paths (and perhaps swords?) with his Yank counterpart, Steve Carell’s Michael.

You’ll recall that last year Gervais hinted that he might be Dunder-Mifflin-bound this season, then producers denied anything was in the works. (Though the actor-comedian previously wrote an episode of the U.S. Office, this would be his first time appearing on screen.)

The news of Gervais’ guest gig comes just three days after his no-holds-barred stint as host of the Golden Globes drew fire from Hollywood’s thinnest-skinned elite. Thankfully, a backlash to the backlash seems to be kicking in.

I gave up on 'The Office US' earlier this year, but I'd definitely watch this.

You think this could be the "jump the shark" moment? Jesus.. the shark has been well and truly jumped (and even a double somersault) at that stage!

I'm still trying to figure out was it the exact moment:

    a)
    Jim and Pam got together
    b)
Jim brought back half the employees from the Stamford branch
    c) Kathy Bates?!
    d)
Jim and Pam get married / get pregnant / get STD's / give birth to 12 small irritating aliens?
    e) Michael Scott became "Homer Simpson post-Season 10"

So many, so difficult to determine!

Ricky Gervais shot a top-secret cameo that will appear in the cold open of the January 27 episode of the NBC series. "It's a little more than if you blink, you'll miss it, but if you don't set your TiVo right, you'll miss it," says Office show-runner Paul Lieberstein.

I'm kinda glad it's only a few second cameo.

    Wonder if
he'll be applying for Michael's job as manager of the branch?

I've been rewatching the earlier seasons of the Office and it is amazing just how bad season 7 has been in comparison. It's almost become a mockery of itself.

Also, I wonder if he'll be playing David Brent or some other character?

    Oh yeah, I misread :D

I thought the author was just speculating that he would be, but it does seem that Gervais confirmed it.

I really don't see the point in having a blink-and-you-miss-it cameo.

Nor do I. Would love a full guest appearance.

Ricky Gervais as David Brent being introduced to the Office by Steve Carell as Michael Scott would be wonderful! Can you imagine David Brent meeting Meredith?

Will Ferrell is also to star in The Office in a Four Episode Arc for Steve's departure:

For those who aren't arsed in seeing the full episode..

The part at the end was class. Hinting at that when Steve Carell leaves, Ricky Gervais could become the new boss.

It'd make you miss the original Office, it really was brilliant.
