Was thinking of this when watching the kerrygold ad for butter, the one where yer man digs up the sod of grass. I keep thinking whats going to happen when he get to the airport and he put the sod of grass through the security scanner, he is a bit mad looking anyway.

Then there the one for the lottery where yer man is in a mosses basket dressed like a baby and 3 nurses who are dressed as if its circa 1986 are reading him a story WTF!! is that about.

Advertising. The more annoying and pointless it is the more successful the marketing.

No. It's about effectiveness. That doesnt necessarily mean making sense.

I agree. I thought the very same thing when I first saw that advert! Maybe we are too pernickity as they say!

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, except I was thinking that when the child is born, was he going to snatch it away from the doctors in the maternity room and instead of wrapping it in a blanket, plonk it down on a 1 foot X 1 foot sod of recently manured Irish grass sod?

by just pointing out that these adds stand out to you proves they've been successful - you've remembered these adds more than that other adds that were less "strange"

Now you have that brand in your mind so when you see it in a shop you may consider buying it so see what it's like whereas a boring add you'd have forgotten the product and would never look at it or even notice it in a shop...

No, they would be even more boring if they had to make perfect sense.
We might never have had this ad if they all had to make sense.

Cadburys ad with gorilla. No sense whatsoever.

    Memorable, YES.

There is big difference between witty and annoying. A witty ad would be more likely to make me pause and look at a product an annoying ad would make me pass the product by.

    Can I just say
that the woman in this ad is Louis Walshes girlfriend. Do quite well for himself isn't he.

Actually no, sorry I read this incorrectly.
IT'S a-mayo-zing good news. Patricia Devine, writer, actress, model and BF of Louis Walsh (who also hails from Mayo) has now added 'mother' to her illustrious curriculum vitae. The strikingly sexy Ms Devine gave birth 10 weeks ago to gorgeous Pia and is looking at a move to Dalkey from her current base in Clonskeagh.
Best friend makes a lot more sense, I read it as if the was her BF!
Just as well actually seeing as a friend told me they were chatting with him in the george. :pac:

Well there's a mobile phone ad on at the moment and whoever devised it should be shot!

Each one features someone who's busy and is called by some idiot (ex) friend talking ****e, and they can do so because they have the "free calls" package from said company (whom I'm not going to name because that would mean their annoying advert achieved its result).

Basically it says two things to me : 1) annoying people choose this company and 2) pray that you don't know anyone either that annoying or with this company

Actually, if you read what it says and take BF as boyfriend, it means she's a man with a female name fixation, a tranny or had a sex change.

Because it says that "she" is his BF.

I prefer confusing ads so I don't end up watching stuff like this. It does really depend on what you are advertising as to how much creative freedom you can use.

But that is what ads are about, getting you to talk and think about them! And that is exactly what you have done. The next time you are looking at getting butter for the house you will see that and think of the ad!

When I was about 11 I had no idea what 50-50 cash back was, but my baby brother (he was born 10 years after me!) He had the puppets of those teddies and I used sing that 50-50 cash back song. But that is the power of advertising!

I think I remember learning it in junior infants. Our school was gas though.
