Hi guys need to put our two dogs into boarding for a week and was wondering if anyone knows of places in Cork that take dogs in like pets and not into kennels.

Don’t want lectures from the “they are just dogs” brigade now I know they are spoilt and that’s just the way things are but they live in our house one sleeps in our bedroom the other in the hall and they have the life of Reily basically so don’t think they’d cope well with traditional kennels. They are very attached to each other so they need to be together and ideally in a home environment.

Other thing is they are on the barf diet so would have to be somewhere who is willing to feed them as we do. Obviously we will provide the food but needs to be kept in a freezer!

Oh ya ones a Golden retriever and the other a fully grown Newfoundland!

Not much to ask I know

    I feel your pain.:D

Try this link, you might be better off getting a sitter in your own home, seen as they are house dogs, they would probably prefer it, and with the BARF diet at least you know that the food is kept as it is supposed to be.

I'd look for references though from other clients via pet forums too.

    Best of luck

Im going to be looking for same thing later in the summer i think this looks interesting

I did make enquires from an ad on the net last year and spoke to one guy who has underfloor heating/piped music/calming lighting but when I asked if they would be taken for a walk he said no - they only take small dogs  I have a Cavalier and a Bichon both of which need at least an hours walk a day to keep them and me sane ;)

had found them alright and planned to enquire. the chances of one of their members of staff taking my two home at the end of the day are slim though!!

a colleague's wife runs a great kennel with underfloor heating and the works and they get 2 walks a day but its still a kennel and not the home they are used to etc. if we have to we'll go down that route but would prefer to place them in someones home or have someone mind them in ours.

    thanks

Have a look to this two sites: www.petsit.ie and www.ohmydog.ie, they both have some listing for Cork. Best luck

go for creedons doggie daycare. u have to pay an assessment fee to csee if they get on with the other dogs which is fair enough, and then she brings them home with her. give them a shout. they need notice though. i dont trust kennels either.

I would definitely recommend Creedon's doggie daycare. My girl goes there once a week, and if we're away for a weekend Nanci will take her home where she is walked, sleeps in her own bed, gets fed her specialist food (which we provide) and goes to the daycare if it's a weekday. She gets to know all the dogs there and really loves them all.

If we go away for longer than a weekend, we send her to a farm out past Mallow, where she is allowed to run free in a very large enclosed area, is walked on a daily basis and sleeps in a single kennel. She's even collected and dropped back for €5!!

I think the best thing is to find someone who loves your dog. Ours is very shy and is completely spoiled, but when she sees the Mallow van at the door, or realises she's being dropped at Creedon's daycare, she lights up and doesn't even bother to say goodbye to us.

thanks guys creedons sounds a good spot so. the plan now is the breeder we got our newf from is going to take them which is brilliant because she absolutely loves our 2 and has 4 newfs herself. they will be in their element there and well looked after so we are delighted with that. if by chance it doesn't go ahead we'll be sure to call creedons. thanks

    Hi everyone!

I'm a petsitter in Cork & have been for 3 years. I mind small/medium dogs in my own home (I've an enclosed garden). For larger dogs, elderly dogs or dogs who'd just prefer to be at home, I'll call into them there. I also do dog-walking, pet taxi & grooming. I've a FETAC qualification in Veterinary Nursing & I've also done the Canine First Responder (Canine 1st Aid) course. And I can provide references if requested. Obviously, my first aim is to look after your pets as well as they're looked after at home. If there's any specific diet or medication needed, that's no problem. Walks are tailored to your dog's needs. I think that's all the points that were raised covered but iIf you've any questions at all, give me a shout on 087 6287715 / thepetminder@gmail.com.

    Bye for now!
