    Greens demand March election

The junior coalition party the Greens today said a General Election must be held before the end of March.

After talks with Taoiseach Brian Cowen, party leader John Gormley said voters wanted to go to the polls as soon as possible.

“We do need an election in March. It’s absolutely imperative, and as far as we are concerned to let it drift beyond into April would be unacceptable,” Mr Gormley said.

    The end is in sight.

They could hold the election sooner but the Greens want to hold it up so they can get some of their unpopular policies through.

Why not? Free speech, and all that!

I've often criticised FF on this forum. I see no reason why I shouldn't also criticise the Greens. After all, they, and their Independent cronies are the reason why FF are still running this Country, against the wishes of the public.

I see that as a perfectly valid reason to criticise them .

Agree with the original poster. The Greens should go now and let's not prolong the agony any longer.

I've voted Greens before but no matter what legislation they pass between now and the end of March, they won't be getting a vote or a preference this time around.

We'll get a date for the election in March for an election in April.

They're trying to save their skin by holding themselves up as the ones who pulled the plug, however their votes won't be recyclable, and good riddance to them.

Did they say 2011, cause those pesky little greens have form with being sneaky......

The Sargeant/Ciaran cuff rants(lies) from the 2007 election campaign about not going into government with FF is a prime example.

    Sargent
“I do not see myself leading the party into coalition with Fianna Fail due to its culture of bad planning, corruption and bad standards.”
Green Party leader Trevor Sargent was asked about a coalition with Fianna Fail. He rubbished the suggestion. “If pigs could fly, I’m sure that would also make news,” he said.

    Cuff (after the election)
“Let’s be clear. A deal with Fianna Fail would be a deal with the devil. We would be spat out after five years and decimated as a party.”

    and they still did it.........

I think its safe to say that the 4.7% of people who gave the greens their 1st preference in 2007 were betrayed. and 99% of the rest of us have suffered for the sins of these morally bankrupt so called GREEN activists after they caught sight of their 30 pieces of silver.
