    Hi,

I have just joined the world of VOIP with a newly aquired PAP2T.

I want to get a German telephone number (and possibly Irish one) for my Girlfriend to be able to ring home to Germany and also to allow people from Germany to call her on a German number.

    1. Which provider do you recommend for this?
    2. When people ring her on the German number will they pay anything extra
i.e. is the number recognised as being different to a regular german landline? Would be great if her mother could use the free German nationwide calls to ring the phone

    Any help/advice is much appreciated.

BlueFace offer virtual German numbers, but you need to provide proof of address and it's €8/month.

I signed up with SIPGate.de after some research and saw they give free german numbers. My gf got one for the area code of her home town (and its only a small town!).

Does anyone know do telcos normally distinguish those types of numbers that are used with voip over normal numbers and charge more as a result?

All I can tell you is that Eircom does not include the non-geo VOIP numbers in any of their 'bundles'

They charge calls to those numbers at the "standard rate".
So yes there is a distinction ...... why it should be I do not know.

    regards.

Thanks, so if it is a local number I would assume they would still only charge local call rates to the numbers?

That is my understanding yes ...... at whatever the rate might be at the time of the call.

IIRC the call charge is dependent on the time, and day, the call is made.
