UPC Package, Curry's offer & Changing Phone number

    Hi Folks

Im with SKY at the moment with a basic package Sky+ box (non hd) for TV, and with Imagine for Broadband & phone.

I was thinking of switching the whole lot to UPC partly cause I think it'll will work out slightly cheaper, and partly because of the offer that is currently running with Curry's (give you a €250 voucher towards a laptop/netbook if you take phone internet & tv package through them)

The advantages of changing to UPC seem to be a HD box with some free HD chanells and cheap ESPN HD, id like this upgrade for my TV. The Sky HD box costs €15 a month.
Secondly the broadband is much faster than current Imagine speeds, and will remain so even after Imagine upgrade their speeds to 15meg.

When we switched to Imagine they gave us one of those Internet numbers. My question is, would I have to switch phone numbers yet again? Or because we already have a internet phone number, can we just keep the same one?

Also any input to the rest of the above would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!!

On Sky you own the HD box and it receives FTA HD and FTA TV (over 40 decent channels) freely if you cancel entirely. The €15 is to add HD versions of SD subscription channels. Likely they will axe that when enough people have HD.

On UPC there are NO free TV channels, only "included channels". They own the box.

You can get separately TV, Broadband or Phone from UPC.

The UPC broadband + Phone is seriously better than eircom and very much better than Imagine Wimax. You don't need to subscribe to the TV.

When payTV in Ireland is already nearly 50% higher pentration than anywhere else these "special offers" are despicable.

Currys/PCWorld may be OK to buy a TV etc. Not a great place to buy a Netbook or Laptop.

You can only keep a number if you are transferring from eircom.

If UPC is better value and what you want, get their TV and keep the Sky box in another room for all the Free UK TV. See http://www.techtir.ie/saortv/freesat and http://www.saortv.info/channels/uk-televison/

Maybe not if the number is not on an eircom line.
Probably not if the company that has it goes bust.

I just switched from Sky HD + Vodafone BB to the top UPC package. It is a pretty good setup in my view, and it still saves me a few bob.

My understanding is that the voucher can be used for anything in the shop - I came across someone else who did it and the manager at Currys also confirmed it to me. Carphone Warehouse is also participating in this promotion

Full number portability is a legal requirement on any operator IIRC.
