Is it natural to be hostile at a foreign face?

Lets say a white person from Ireland, if you were speaking to a person from Ethiopia who is 100% black, or a person 100% chinese.

I was reading an article on wikipedia and it says that tests show peoples anxiety levels increase when looking at faces of people from a different race. I can say this happens to me sometimes.

No, it's not natural. Next question.

I suppose it might be. I don't know if I would call it intentionally hostile or anything, people are always more comfortable around those most like themselves (same socio-economic background, same county..)

I think it's just about recognising emotion on faces and the nature regarding upbringing. If you were around different races instead of purely Caucasian growing up then I'd say it would have less of an impact subconsciously in later years.

I recall reading that we're predisposed to tribalistic tendencies so the "natural" reaction to someone who appears different at first glance may be slight distrust. However, with advances in mass-media and transport facilitating the integration and communication between people around the world, races outside one's own really shouldn't seem all that unfamiliar.

In any case, we harbour many "natural" instincts that are better to consciously overrule.

Yea, I presume that it's ingrained in us from thousands of years of protecting our own tribes and that..

I'm not a racist xenophobic, so it makes no difference to me whatsoever.

However, if I was speaking to someone/anyone with a throbbing puss-filled spot on their nose, I would be extremely hostile if it exploded, spraying me with gunge.
