Grant Question

    Hey there,

I did a Masters last year and was refused a grant after applying as an independent mature student. I was told I was not eligable because I had to be out of education for two years before I could be considered under this category, otherwise I would be means tested under my circumstances when I entered college in 2005. In 2005 I was 21, living at home and both my parents were working at the time so I was not eligable for anything.

Now my cirumstances have changed a bit. I had intended on doing the H.Dip this year but, due to the fact I was refused for a grant last year, I have an enourmous bank loan to pay off so could not afford to do it. I still want to do the H.Dip but I was going to wait until 2012 when I would be two years out of education and, finally, be eligable for a grant.

However, since both my parents have now retired, I wa wondering whether I could re-apply for a grant this year? I'm 26 and living away from home at the moment, but I could move home if it meant I would get a grant to go to college in Cork, where I live.

I just want to know which would be the best option: (a) Wait until 2012 and apply as an independent mature student; or (b) Apply this year under my parents income?

    Appreciate any input :)

You won't get a grant or free fees because you are not progressing. A Masters is above a Hdip, therefore you would be regressing.
