Was wondering if someone with a decent scope (say 2K worth) living in Dublin would have any chance of observing the Martian moons.

    Love this forum btw.
Am currently saddled with 2 toddlers so no chance of investing for a while but one can always dream.
In the meantime I have the naked eye, celestia on my linux box and this forum...

The main problem in observing Phobos and Deimos is that Mars is just so bright relative to the moons. The moons are just so tiny that they are drowned out by Mars' shine. You need a reasonably big scope but also need to block out Mars' light. A simple solution is an occulting bar click here

Im afraid Mars is piggy back riding the sun during the day at the moment so can't see a thing!
