Today's Indo highlighted a story that there was no recognition yesterday of Michaela McAreavey's funeral on Mauritius. This was also in the morning edition of the Indo owned Belfast Telegraph, but was removed from the later editions and the Tele website. It probably was removed because it was totally untrue and the Irish News had carried an account of a a tribute in the church of Saint-Ange-Gardien, in Grand Baie, in memory of Michael Hart, at the time when the funeral took place in Ireland. This ceremony in Mauritius was attended by Tourism Minister Nando Bodha, the foreign minister, Arvin Boolell, and representatives of the tourism sector.

There is a specific issue here about a newspaper printing a falsehood and the tone of the article which goes out of its way to portray people in Mauritius as unfeeling. This is a disgrace (I don't want ranting about the general tone of media coverage of this tragedy, just this specific untrue article).

Is it news either way? To me reporting something like that is just a way of stretching out this tragic story. God only knows what spin on the story the Sunday version will have this week.

Let the woman rest in peace

Get a copy of the Independent and Irish Times and go through them side by side. Quite amazing how the Indo differs on many details from the Times story. The bulk of the differences make the indo version more "exciting" so you can make your mind up on who is more accurate.

The way the S/Indo used every excuse in the book to stretch out the Katie French story suggests that Michaela McAreavey won't be resting in peace for some time to come, I just hope the families steer clear of those papers for about a year.

Poor old Katie made her way into the S.Indo again this week!
