Hi all, not really that tech savvy, so apologies if this sounds a bit naive. Was downloading my mail this afternoon and opened a document from a trusted source. This was a scanned document of a hand written sketch. A pop up then opened up claiming that there was a Trojan embeded. This was not my normal antivirus (I use AVG). Then this pop up started saying that there was different virus in every mail. The site mentioned was programmci.com. As a result I cant open any webpages on my browser. It keeps saying that any page that I try to visit is "Not set up to establish a connection on port "World Wide Wed service HTTP".

This has never happened before. I have checked all the settings on another laptop that I have and they remain the same. I have a feeling that there is some malware at work here.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like another spin on the classic scareware programs which try to get people to buy fake antivirus software to remove non-existent infections.

Try the instructions here first and report back, they're generic enough that they'll sort out most infections.

If this doesn't work, then reboot into 'Safe Mode with Networking' first and repeat the above. This variation is described here.
