What "type" of HTTP Proxy are we using here anyway?

I'm trying to configure my FTP client of choice (Transmit) to deal with the Goddamned College Proxy - it's possible to use it with Proxifier but it's ungodly slow - but Transmit is being a bit of a pain.

Whereas every other piece of software on the face of the earth (including the system) offers me a choice between HTTP/HTTPS, Socks 4 and Socks 5, Transmit offers "Type 1", "Type 2", etc, through "Type 10".

Transmit's documentation doesn't go any deeper than "select what type of proxy you want to use". That's not much help. Can any of y'all help?

Use a better client? Tried looking for some info about this for you, and couldn't find any.
