Major gang crime unit has budget cut by 50%

"The Garda's biggest ongoing operation against organised crime across the Republic has had its budget cut by Government by more than 50 per cent.

Operation Anvil, which paid for raids and roadblocks on gang members, now only has €10m down from €21m"
    .

Dose this mean that organised criminals and drug dealers will now be rubbing their hands?.

    Jesus.

While I understand that savings have to be made across the PS, it seems like one of the few places where cuts shouldn't have been made.

Especially since it was keeping the pressure up on the gangs and getting results.

Because of the economic situation, many criminal gangs are being forced to lay off their hitmen....consequently, there is no need for a unit like this...

Is probably what the DoJ believe.

And kill a few innocent people in the process , Hopefully some political figure so this will be reversed.

Don't forget the new[ish] RSU armed units would naturally offer cover for the business end of these operations.

The cut is not quite so bad when you add in these new and additional units to the mix.
