Is there an AndroisdApp (LG optimus One, running 2.2) , if the phone is stolen or lost, I can disable the phone, so it cannot be used to make calls, or even better, cannot be used at all

Think Wavesecure is the one you are looking for here.

Theft Aware seems to be the best one out there. It's €10 for a license.

Prey lets you keep track of your phone or laptop at all times, and will help you find it if it ever gets lost or stolen. It's lightweight, open source software, and free for anyone to use.

don't know how good or bad it's

The old-fashioned way is still good, write down the IMEI number. How do these fancy security apps handle a factory reset? I know there are advanced ones that require root, but these normal non-root ones are useless surely (defeated by factory reset)?

Hi If I have the imei number, is it a case of ringing my provider (three) and they lock the phone ?

Yes, however the thieves might sell it abroad. Carriers are supposed to have a global database of reported IMEI codes, but I dunno if they actually follow up on this properly. For sure it will be disabled in Ireland.

Hacking the IMEI code is serious business, and probably beyond most thieves.

I take it you have never tried to get an IMEI blocked....

You have to have the IMEI registered to you before they will block it. Otherwise you could just ring the company up and get some random persons phone blocked.
