I think I just seen a shooting star. I was travelling south along the m1 at 6pm when what looked like a shooting star flashed across me looking like it was really close, probably a few hundreds yards in front of me. I know it couldn't have been that close but did anyone else see anything????

Im in Glasnevin and there's a rake of what look like shooting stars out there at the minute - only thing is they're orange and they're going slower than what a shooting star normally go - anyone got any idea what this is?

    They'll be chinese lanterns.

@jarvis You could well have seen one - shooting or falling, judging distance can be deceptive. Bear in mind they only appear for less than a second usually.

Definitely not chinese lanterns, way to far up for that. Think there was something about it on Matt Cooper tonight but I missed it - housemates were telling me. Apparently they can be seen as far as Mullingar.

Yeah it was only a second or too, had a tail and all.

I just looked out and seen what I'd normally consider a falling star, a slow moving star really high up that would cross the visible sky in around a minute or possibly two!!! Are they not shooting stars???? Or falling stars ifvtgeres a difference.
But what I seen tonight was excellent to see.
I'm in Ashbourne if anyone else sees anything.

Slow and multiple orange lights in the sky - they are always chinese lanterns. They do get a lot higher than people think. Do a search on the site and you'll see that type of reaction just about every time on loads of threads. If they really were being seen from Mullingar, Dublin Airport would likely stop all departures which has not happened.
