Demons Souls - Start of it annoying me :(

Hey,

Picked up Demons Souls there yesterday for 28 quid in GAME.. Anyways I started playing and I enjoy the game, but it is ridiculous the amount of times I have died at the start of the game (after meeting the people selling stuff and getting trapped etc.).. Like seriously wtf is with this? I play and keep killing most of them and then I get killed and boom I am right back to where I was 30mins ago (because I keep dieing)... And when I get to the furthest part theres a kind of knight with red eyes who just kills me with one hit.. This is just driving me nuts and is really annoying, I would love the game if it had checkpoints etc.. Do I just go to the place kill people and then transfer back or what?

Sorry if this is in wrong forum but I think it should be here since it's an exclusive and I need urgent help lol but move it if you feel necessary..

It really is a punishing bastard of a game at times! (OK, all of the time...)
For starters you shouldn't be going towards the red eye knight for ages yet... IIRC you need to go down the stairs at the other end of the long narrow area befor that, flick the switch at the bottom of the stairs, go back up the stairs and go through the foggy area.
This is one of those games where following a walkthrough is not only excusable, but downright necessary if you want to preserve your sanity

Flicking the above mentioned switch opens up a shortcut. The game doesn't have checkpoints, but shortcuts like this help a lot!

Stick with it, it's harsh but fair. And you definitely shouldn't be fighting the red eyed knight at you're level. If you are playing online there should be dozens of messages on the ground telling you to return there much later in the game. What you want to do is go to the far other end of the ramparts and head down the tower which will not only open up a shortcut for when you die but there's also a ring down there that when equiped gives you 3/4 life in soul form rather than half life, it's probably the most important item in the game.

Yeah I went down halfway them stairs once and then got fire thrown at me so ran the feck back up them :L... Yeah it seems awesome, I aint use to RPG games though (in fact I have never finished an RPG in my life).. It was this or Fallout New Vegas and I went for this because it's suppose to be awesome and Fallout had a few glitches at start..

EDIT: Tman just saw the bit about DS thread (for a start I was thinking Nintendo DS then I coped on ) Yeah I will check that out next time cheers

Ive tried and ive tried and ive tried and I am absolutely getting nowhere with this game :eek:..

I may ring GAME tomorrow and see whats the chances of me getting refunded in store credit... I have never come across a game as hard as this in my entire life... Maybe its just because I never play RPG games but still it should in no way be that hard..

Well if you want to do that then do but you're missing out on one of the best games of this generation. It's not really that tough it's just people are used to all the hand holding on modern games that when something comes along that would be considered mild on a 16-bit system it gets proclaimed the hardest game ever. The game is about knowing how to play it. My friend got through the first level on his first go because I was there explaining the game to him and telling him what to expect while it took me a long time to get through it. Are you sure you aren't equipping weapons that are beyond your skill level, it should warn you beforehand. You're very close to opening the first shortcut.

I've a few games lined up and tbh I really, really suck at video games, I'm guessing I should leave this one til last to get some practice in and learn some patience? :P

You mean I was very close to opening my 1st shortcut till I got put right back to the begining..

I have a club and a shield thats about it.. Maybe I chose the wrong type of person to pick for battle... But I made one funny looking character.. I have no idea what I am doing wrong... I have been on this bit for over an hour...

Being on the first bit for about an hour sounds about right! It's a hard game to leanr but it's damn rewarding!

The game's community is helpful if you're in situations like this. They can give you tips via messages on the ground of if your on a forum like this, the world is your oyster. There are even wiki's to help you through and show you where certain items are. You can even get people the join you for co op play (as long as they're 10 soul levels ahead or below you). Coming to us was a good start. Just be patient and don't pretend that you're Rambo when playing.

Why after passing through 20mins of the game, do I get put right back to the start? That just seems so retarded to me..

EDIT: wait there I still have the rings but lost the souls? whats up there?

You used to have to start entire games from the beginning again if you ran out of lives. It's risk vs. reward. It's a bit like counterstrike. There's a harsh punishment for dying so you really don't want to avoid it. You can't beat demon's souls through repetition, you've got to gain the skill to get through it.

You keep all the items you find and also any shortcuts you open will remain open. However when you die your souls are lost. You can recover them by returning to the spot where you died and touching your blood stain their. However if you die a second time before reaching that spot then those souls are lost forever. At the moment you can't level up by using these souls so it's not important but once you defeat the first boss you will be able to level up and it becomes much more important.

No. You still need to level up and have a decent set of weapons first before you can go for him.

Definitely not, you need to level up like crazy and you can't even level up now! Sure all that is behind the red eye knight is one of the hardest optional bosses in the game. It's not worth it. I wouldn't go near the red eye knight until you are close to finishing the game.

Damn, how long is the game? Just went and blew up the crossbow lad.. Think I am heading the right direction I just aint sure..

Depending on how good you are at it...if you're good, you can finish it in about 30 hours.

There's two places you'll see the dragons in the first level. At the place where they are sitting down in the grassy area go around to the left of them and take the path along the cliffs edge to get some good loot. Don't bother trying to get the loot directly in front of them, you'll only get BBQ'ed. In another area you'll see a dragon flying over a bridge and covering it with flames. The dragon should take some of them out but he keeps blasting it with fire. Heal yourself fully time it right and leg it across the bridge and don't stop, even though there'll be enemies there run right past them, once you are safe turn around and deal with those enemies. Once you get past that bridge you are very close to opening the entrance to the first boss.

Took me 50+ hours to beat it.

The dragon has a pattern. If you're only on level 1-1, try hugging the wall to the left of where he breathes out the fire.

Yep, no point killing the dragons now, you can come back later and do it.

For the boss kill the little guys first. Firebombs really help as well as turpentine on your weapon but it's doable without them. Also when you beat this level use all the soul you have except the soul you get from the boss phalanx since boss souls can be used later on to make powerful spells and equipment. Another tip, don't continue on after the first boss, 1-2 is a very tough level with a very hard boss and no shortcuts. My advice is tackle 2-1. It has a shortcut, opens up a way to the best blacksmith in the game and is relatively easy with a spear weapon. Winged spear is very useful in this level. Also you can level up at theblack maiden, make use of this!
