I have a spare Iomega USB 500GB HD https://iomega-eu-en.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/18649 can I cannabalise this to replace the 160 GB HD in my old G5 20" iMac it seems to be a seagate 500gb sata 7200rpm 8mbs HD inside any thoughts?

Cannot see why not.

Format it and wipe it with 1's before hand.

Use carbon copy to copy the os and data on the 160.

Get tool of choice and perform cannibalization on caddy.

Install it and verify and repair permissions, and so on.

worked like a charm..!!

the same spec hd on elara would have been ~60, the ext HD cost 45!!

easy peasy!
