Adding Analytics to a website searchbox. How is it done?

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with or info on how i might add analytics to a searchbox I am using on my website. I am using a very straightforward search function that provides results related to a keyword function linked to the database. It would be very helpful to me to know exactly what terms are being searched within my site.

So far i have only seen analytics set-up information for searchboxes that are google's own sitesearch plug-in searchboxes.

Thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks
