well sorry if this is on the wrong section, it could be a midband thread,

im in the south-east, looking to get WiMax, packages seem ok, nice and cheap, i think the 150 euro once off payment is a bit much but ill bottle that for now, i like their packages.

im off eircom, way too expensive for me, and the reason for the move is financial, so i originally wanted to go for the 35E a month 1mb package,

but then for the sake of 5 euro extra i can get the 3mb package.

guy on the phone then trys to upsell me with "for the sake of a fiver" you can the 7 meg package, god love em for trying, i said no.
but im sure i wanna go for the 3 meg @ 40E, that seems ok and beats the **** out of eircom @ 55 a month, with a 2 euro charge for each GB over the cap.

so i would imagine that some folk might not be happy with the 7 meg coz they might not get that full 7 meg, but im only getting the 3 meg.

so guys anyone any reports on the 3 meg ? service wise, or anyone any story's they wanna share good or bad. love ot hear from you.

well sorry if this is on the wrong section, it could be a midband thread,

Lots of threads in Midband, none of them good. If you're expecting the same performance you got with eircom, you won't be getting it.

im off eircom, way too expensive for me, and the reason for the move is financial, so i originally wanted to go for the 35E a month 1mb package,

If you use your broadband for gaming, then you could be seeing a whole lot of problems with Imagine WiMax. Latency is an issue. Congestion is another one, so you may not get anything near the 3Mbps you signed up for.

Considering the saving is only €15 out of €55 a month, I'd say you've made a big mistake. Imagine WiMax cannot compare with DSL, or any real broadband service. If it's cheaper (and as good or better than eircom) that you're looking for, you should have considered the myriad of DSL resellers, all of which are cheaper than eircom (UTV, Smart, Magnet, Vodafone, even Imagine!).

cheers. i may check these threads out so...

i have an xbox 360 but the only game i play when i have it on is black ops. i do very very little gaming, almost none, and have toned down on my downloading a lot too.

if i can get to my mail box, make a few forum posts, watch a few youtube vids and download a 700mb film once a week and getting it within a decent time frame, id be content.

ive been on eircom since 2006, on the 1 meg, and then moved to 3 meg over a year ago. yes, fully agree, absolutely flawless broadband, was never down for me ,good ping ,and was never charged for going over the download cap.

the fact the phone line was there, had me using it when i ran outa phone credit, it really became a bad habit and bills were over 55 as a result. im dirt at self control, lol.

so we all got the letter a bit before xmas, saying everyone on the 3 meg connection was being upgraded for free to the 8meg and was also notified that we were gonna be charged nearly 2 euro per GB when past the 30gb cap.

this supposedly happened here where i am on the 10th of December,i didn't know it happened because my speed never changed , it stayed at 3mb,and on the letter they never gave an exact date, they just said "sometime between December and the end of January""

got the bill today. between the usual 55 euro, the phone usage, and then another 25 euro on top of that for exceeding the 30gb cap, in which they charged for exceeding the cap but they never upgraded the line...

i just said, here ive had enough of this bull****.. of coarse i rang them up but i got nothing but smarmy back answers telling me regardless of weather i was upgraded to the 8mb, i had to pay for exceeding the cap anyway, and if i had issues with speed then i should see technical support..

i argued back saying if that was the case then why haven't they been charging me for excessive usage since 2006, coz it wasn't the 1st itime i exceeded, and they replied by saying they only started charging since they got the new hardware at Christmas.

i replied saying they never said clearly in black and white that they were gonna charge either way weather we get our 8 meg upgrade or not. so when i was still on the 3 meg i thought exceeding was ok, it was a little bit more in depth than that, but i wont go on about it....

lets just say, i am absolutely totally done and dusted with eircom, and im looking for a good broadband service that has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with eircom. :D

    cheers for your info.

If you can get DSL then I would strongly discourage midband. If you are interested in gaming I would discourage midband.

I have WiMax in Ennis. Was shocking until about a month ago so I suspect that have upgraded the Ennis site. I'm on the 7 meg package. During "off peak" hours I do get the full 7 meg but a lot of the time I get 2/3 Mbps. Latency varies between 60ms and 250ms. Phone line is grand, no complaints there. Havent kept track of usage but I would download a good bit and no one has complained yet.

I've avoided posting anything about my Imagine experience, after all the negative posts I've read here. I've had it for 3 months now, and have to say I'm very happy with the service I've received.

Only paying for the 3meg connection, and almost always have download speeds far exceeding what I would have expected. Downloading 700mb files in 30 mins is good enough for me, and although ping times appear high on Speedtest, other sites have measured lower times, and it's fine for online poker anyway.
