As a big fan of Duval I hope this coincides with a big year for him and see's him in contention this year.

    Nice one.

I really like the ethos of these SG guys & Ryan Moore (part owner). Good to see a company stand apart from the mental marketing jungle of the rest of the PGA Tour brands.

I heard more rumour about Srixon using custom designed "prototype" irons to get new tour players on side. Basically saying "sign with us and we'll build you an identical set to your old Callaway/TM/Titleist irons and stamp 'Srixon' on them".

Of course they're not the only brand at it. But it seems TW started something of a trend back in his Mizuno/Titleist days. It really is all a sham now isn't it?

Scratch Golf & Ryan Moore do seem to be a bit different at least. Great choice in Duval - he may not be a world beater anymore, but he has the whole golfing world on his side. If he gets in the spotlight once in the next 12 months it'll be a real coup for SG. In marketing terms, one big DD weekend would be worth fifty top 10 finishes by a player the public are indifferent to. The cost is probably about the same too!

Ryan Moore is no longer with or part of Scratch golf: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-11-18/ryan-moore-leaves-scratch-golf-to-join-adams-golf-loses-ownership-stake.html

I agree, if you look at McDowells old irons they are very similar to his new Srixon's.

100% agree and I intend to put a few Euro each way this year on him as I did last year.

As for the sham we really have no idea as a golfing public how different our Irons are to what the pro's play not only in terms of shafts and set ups but to actual head type's.
This guy as you probably know would be one of the geniuses responsible for some of the top end tour players clubs:

I'm not sure about Scratch Golf clubs.......where are the features that will help me knock 5 shots off my handicap?

Oh and to follow up on what LOFT said.....

"Many other players on the U.S. professional tours were, and still are, playing Miura-made clubs under the brand name of other equipment companies and, to a more-limited extent, under the Miura brand."

Ya well and good, but have you seen the price of their clubs? you would be doing well to get a set for less than a grand

    !

The Srixon TX2 forged are a production head that's already released in Japan. As far as i know, they're forged by Endo for Srixon, and also make irons for Nike and Bridgesone/Tourstage. The heads used by MacDowell will likely be sorted to tighter specs (weight, loft, lie, and maybe non standard grind) but other than that, if really you wanted to you could buy a set. There's only a limited number of ways to configure a forged player's CB.

Scratch do have Don White doing their custom grinds, widely regarded as one of the best in the business, (among others greg norman) and that's why they're charging about $8000 for a set of custom irons. It's a very niche company :)
