    Hi,

I'm looking for some advice. I'm planning on starting a business. There is a company in England which is using the particular business model that I intend to use here in Ireland. The company in England will probably never enter the Irish market.

What I would like to do is write to the founders of the English company with a view to arranging a meeting with them to discuss the ins and outs of the business model and the pitfalls etc of the business model.

I have two particular questions; firstly - do you think entrepreneurs are open to this sort of thing? and secondly - could you give me any pointers as to how best to pitch the letter? I have never written a letter like this so not sure what it should contain and what tone I should strike.

    Thanks!

Simple answer #1 - depends on the entrepreneur.
Simple answer #2 - depends on the business.

Best thing to do to get results is catch him off guard with a phone call, that way if he's trying to be polite he'll give you a lot more information that he might not give you if he actually took the time to think it over. Either way your tone should be nice as pie, depending on the business maybe he could be useful as a paid consultant or investor.

other thing to be careful of

if he has a hint that there is a market in ireland, from talking to you, he might enter the market

Thats a dangerous assumption to make. With labour costs low and
the rents on commercial property low. The Irish marketplace has never been easier to enter.

Your proposition to speak with them would have to be v. strong.
If you approach this expecting gratuitous kindness...you are probably wrong.
Do offer them or frame your proposition in a way that will benefit them. Can you source this product from them? You could talk to them about being a reseller of the product/service...but do not expect to get free information
    easily.
