if the public holiday falls on a day when you do not usually work then you are entitled to 1/5 of your weekly wage in addition to your weekly wage, or the equivalant time off in lieu.

Sorry but I don't fully understand.
I would have normally worked a monday before going on short time but would have been off if it was a bank holiday.
    I receive a mionthly salary.
So I would normally be off on a bank holiday but normally paid for it.
Am I still entitled to pay or day off?

    Thanks for your help

    from www.citizensinformation.ie
If you have worked for your employer at least 40 hours in the 5 weeks before the public holiday and you are due to work on a public holiday you are entitled to that day off as paid leave or one of the alternatives as listed above. If you are not required to work on that particular day you should receive one-fifth of your weekly pay instead of the actual day's leave. Even if you may never be rostered to work on a public holiday you are entitled to one-fifth of your weekly pay as compensation for the public holiday.
if you are still unclear you can ring NERA 1890808090 dont pay any attention to the prompts (press 1 press2 etc.) just stay on the line until you speak to someone.

So that says they should get paid a days pay for the bank holiday even if they are not rostered on for that day? I think that means they get paid because they would be in work on a normal monday if it wasnt for the bank holiday . In the OP case they dont work the Mondays anyway so they cant get paid for a monday that they wouldnt have been working anyway.

You only get a day in lieu if you have worked the bank holiday. In this case you are off on the monday so in effect its your day in lieu. You cant expect 2 days off for the 1 day.

When I worked in jobs where I was never rostered on a Monday and Monday was a bank holiday, I always got extra pay that week.
