I have a 2006 2litre impreza. I've never actually worked out the mpg on it but it really depends on how you drive it.

90% of my driving is city driving, very short hops back and forth around Dublin. For that kind of driving it doesn't really matter if you're driving a 2 litre impreza or a tiny city car, it's all first to 3rd gear stop start stuff.

The only time I ever really watch the fuel is when I drive between Cork and Dublin. It's approx €40-45 for a one way drive from Cork to Dublin (260km).

Basically with an Impreza if you drive it hard it will drink fuel, if you take it easy and don't rev it too hard then it'll be fine.

In terms of reliability it's bulletproof, very solid and reliable. Never once let me down in the cold snap and it was brilliant in the snow with the 4wd.

    So..

€42.5/€1.40(rough price of petrol over the last while) = ~ 30.35 liters

    (30.35liters / 260KM) * 100KM = 11.67liters/100KM

Which is the same as about 24.21mpg

Which is terrible, I used to get over 33mpg from a 1995 Celica SS2 on a Cork to Dublin run and that was not driving with economy in mind.

Those boxer petrol engines were never inherently frugal regardless of traffic conditions. Carrying a 4wd setup around costs in weight terms too.

The diesel version isn't even particularly light on fuel (for a diesel).

If fuel economy is an overiding concern look elsewhere.

Was just curious man thats all. I presumed it'd be about 20mpg to be honest.

For the impreza turbo, it's around that.

I'm happy with 6.2l/100km on my daily commute and just less than that on long runs. Have got 5.8l /100km on the odd trip to cork and derry

I am getting between 5.2 and 6.0 on a mixture of town and country driving. I make this 54 to 47 mpg. I am happy with this fuel consumption.

I've a Forester (Impreza-based) 2.5XT, had a 2.0 S turbo before that. Both autos, both used around 15l/100kms around town, theoretically dropping as low as 10l/100kms on a gentle run.
