Typically I have just finished getting my car ready for the NCT next week and last night I notice that the handbrake cable appears loose. I need to put it right to the last notch before the brakes hold. Think this could be a potential fail. Is there any way to adjust this easily. is there an access panel as I can't seem to see one?

If you lift the armrest between the front seats you will find a flap at the bottom of the storage compartment. Under this is the handbrake adjuster, IIRC you need a 13 mm spanner to adjust it.

That's great thanks BrianD3 I was hoping this would be a straightforward one. I'll take a look tonight.

    Be careful here.

The handbrake cable should be "just" slack when the handbrake is fully released.

If you tighten the cable more, you just end up with the caliper not functioning correctly.

Correct procedure is to get cable fully slack, allow self adjusters in the caliper work, then tighten cable until the caliper is still not being moved by the cable in the off position.

Thanks for the heads up. I haven't got around to it yet as its being too dark at night. I did have a quick look for the access flap mentioned but didn't see one in the bottom of the storage compartment though.
