Hi guys just looking for some advice
Was driving home this evening and noticed my temperature gauge shoot up to red, just before that my interior heaters stopped working, i stopped the car immediatly and opened the bonnet, fan was working and opened the expansion bottle top, had lost some water but not all. Its a 99 astra 1.2 with 110k miles, never had a prob before so am stumped. Hoping its not the headgasket  any advice or help would be much appreciated

Top up the coolant, cross fingers, a few Hail Marys, run engine.

It might only need a new thermostat if your lucky or the water pump is broke but if your not so lucky the head gasket is gone.

Thanks for the bump esel :)
Update, i went back to the car yesterday and filled the collant with approx 6 litres of water and ran the engine for 10 mins, the hot air eventually started to come through the interior heaters BUT along with hot air came steam and clouded the interior. The gauge went from being hot 90c to 40/50c and remained at that. Oil seems ok and no signs of mayo under the cap so hoping its not the headgasket. Other thing i noticed was water in the passenger footwell so is it possible that there is a problem with the actaul heating system rather than the head???
    Thanks for the replies

You've a bad heater matrix.Usually you can disconnect the two heater hoses at the firewall and join them together with a hose connector and a couple of clamps.
It will stop the leaking and the problem till you replace the heater matrix. But you will have no heat untill the hoses are back where they should be.
Part should be in or around E120.
