    What's the obvious? ;)

She may be a little uncomfortable which will show itself in her behaviour i.e. she may be a little cranky, seem a bit off or act in ways she wouldn't normally. She may have to urinate more in volume and in frequency. She might drink more than usual or go off her food, just feed as you normally would and let her decide for herself if she wants it or not.

How much spotting there is will depend on her size, smaller breeds maybe barely noticable. You'll have to be vigilant in keeping her away from any male dogs for 4 weeks after the start of her heat which may mean having to keep her confined for the duration which could result in a little 'cabin fever'.
