Not sure if you good people will be able to help but here goes:

The OH's sister got a Dell Inspiron laptop delivered the other day. She switched it on and waited for it to boot up but it's just hanging on a screen which says, "Setup is preparing your computer for first use". It stayed like that for a couple of hours and doesn't seem to do anything.

I've run any diagnostics tests that I can and there doesn't seem to be any hardware or memory problems so I'm not sure what to do.

I think all new Dells come with a partition on the HDD that has an image of the factory settings that the laptop is shipped with but I'm not sure if that includes stuff like AV software and MS Office. Anyone know about this?

I'm not long in from work and it was sat ceremoniously in the kitchen for me to look at.

Anyway, it all seems to be ok now. I forgot the golden rule of pc troubleshooting: If in doubt, turn it off and on again!
