Hey all, planning a trip to Asia and would really appreicate any advice available from people who have a bit of experience travelling around there!

Have a rough idea of flying into Beijing, travelling over land by train to Hanoi and then around SE Asia. The bit im slightly worried about it travelling through China.

Due to lack of knowledge of China, all I really know about it Beijing and how to go direct by train from Beijing to Hanoi, this seems quite expensive and a waste bypassing a large chunk of what is surely a wonderful country.

Has anyone made this journey before? Reccomendations for alternative travel?

Does anyone have any advice on places to go/see/do along the route the train would take? Is hopping off the train in different locations allowed or does one have to stay on the same train throughout the journey?

Any help at all with this would be greatly appreciated!
Oh, and keep in mind it'll be 3 or 4 young irish people travelling so we will be looking for a bit of craic along the way too!

    Thanks alot!
