So I just came across this.

Why do we have a statue of Bill Clinton casue he played Golf somwhere.I know people may not like our own leaders but I'd much rather a statue of Biffo playing Golf like recently then...well that?

But seriously though. Why dont we see statues of our own past Presidents etc.The park in my local town for instance is called JFK park...

He famously hit that golf ball into a guard-dog's mouth, and was given the new name Bill-Chulainn, or 'Bill, seller of apples and peddler of ****e TV'.

I'm sure drunkards would much rather p1ss all over a statue of Mary McAleese. Perhaps you could start a petition?

Cause Clinton was at one time the most powerful man on earth.

Biffo isnt even the most powerful man in Ireland!

It makes us feel closer to our current colonial master..

I hope they'll be able to do a good Mao Tse-tung when we're officially handed over to the Chinese.

I like JFK and Clinton, so it doesn't bother me, if however, I seen one of Raygun or Bush I'd steal a JCB and destroy it.

Read the plaque: "Unveiled by Charles Haughey."

I think that should be enough of a reason...

The actual park section of Galway's Eyre Square is called Kennedy Park and there's a bust of yer man in it. Guy must have been popular.

I'm sure it was a big deal back in the day anyway, I wasn't alive, though.

All of the commemorated American Presidents mentioned had a strong link to Ireland. Clinton was a big part of the NI peace process. As the most powerful man in the world, he put quite a lot of effort into stopping people from dying on our little island. I wouldn't begrudge him a statue, but the golf thing is a bit wierd...

JFK I think had a state visit, and was of Irish descent at least.
