IMEI text message

For the past few weeks I have been getting a message, up to 8 times a day saying. " Keep this message from ..." and then mentions an IMEI # , the same number each time. The sender's own number varies.
I rang him back once but the guy who answered said he was as puzzled as I was.
My friends/family are v impressed by my popularity but I'm fed up at this stage.

Id give your network a call and ask them to take a look

I tried this, the communications expert [employed by Vodafone] who replied was at a total loss, which is why I posted here.

Ok after a bit of googling it appears to be a tracker app on someone elses phone. The idea is you install an app and enter in phone numbers of friends or family. If the sim is ever changed in that phone, the phone will text the number with an imei. For example, I install it on my phone and give my girlfriends number. My phone is stolen so I call my network to get it barred but I need to know the imei. The thief changes the sim, which sends a text to my gf with my imei and the thiefs number.

Has a friend or family member had their phone stolen/reported missing recently?

this happened to me on a Samsung Tocco i sold a few years ago.
theres a little feature that allows the phone top send an SMS to a selected number anytime a new sim in inserted into the phone and keeps doing every few days.

it incase your phone is stolen etc you can get the IMEI easily and know the number thats using it.
