Tripple advice??

I was out cycling in Wicklow on Sunday and when I hit a couple of steep patches I noticed my chain slipped once or twice. I'm guessing this most likely means that my chain has begun to stretch to a point that it needs to be replaced along with the back cog. (I've the bike about 1.5 years and did a few thousand Km in that time so I'm guessing thats fair enough.). I'm also planning a touring trip to the Alps this april as well so I'm think that it might make sense to take care of everything at once and just go a buy a tripple at the same time.

Does anyone have any recommendations on a reliable, strong and not overly expensive Tripple set to go on a Specialized Allez elite?

Also does anyone know if the new chain I get for the Tripple will work with the double I have as well?

    Thanks in advance:)

If you change to a Triple you'll have to change your STI shifter which is expensive. What series components are on the bike?

Sh*te! That's a very good point Paul and something I completely overlooked!

I have a Shimano 105 Group set on the bike. The shifters are also Shimano 105.

I'm hoping this doesn't turn out alot more expensive than I guessed.
Can you go to the Alps with a double and a pannier on the back.......

I presume 5600 105? Or 5500? Also does it have the 105 Bottom Bracket and Hollowtech crankset or does it use e.g. Shimano R600 or FSA? Is the one you have 52/39 or 50/34 compact. What cassette have you? You could possibly go with 34 compact and 28 rear rather than a triple?
