    Hi There,

I, hopefully, should be picking up my bike (Cube Peloton) in the next 2 weeks and am pretty keen to get out there straight away. I have just moved here and live in Dublin 4.. Was wondering whether anyone had any ideas on any routes I should follow. I have seen a few things about Wicklow as well? I have friends in Bray so am out there on a regular basis also.

Oh and if anyone has a recommendation on any clubs in the area that would be great.. Basically beginner level but eager to develop as quick as possible.

    Thanks!

Going to try a spin from my direction to Greystones via the coast road and back the N11.

I noticed of google maps that some part of the N11 goes the motorway. Is this the case??

Also what is the N11 like from Greystones back to town?? Hilly flat? Hardshoulder all the way?? I might not even be able to do it with the motorway bit.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Nick.

I would avoid the N11 altogether if I were you and just come back the way you came via the coast road. If you don't care to do the climb back over Bray Head via Windgates then you can do join the N11 at Delgany and cross back into Bray before the Motorway section (Bray to Loughlinstown) starts.

It's hardshoulder all along there, not particularly nice with cars whizzing past, but nothing to worry about in terms of safety.

Or you could do yourself a favour, take a left at Kilmacanogue and go for a spin in the hills. :)

There's a small section of Motorway around Bray, so you'd have to take a detour (like this)

Going from town out to Bray on the N11 is hard shoulder most of the way, and it's a bit of a long, uphill slog, but it's fine. After Bray, towards Greystones is a bit hillier, but again nothing too major, though I find the road surface to be a bit 'heavy' and so am not a fan of the Dual Carriageway -there's plenty of nicer roads going through Dun Laoghaire and Killiney to take you towards Bray imo -stick to the coast!

Bikemap.net have a rather handy feature that lists user created routes in an area.

I think mapmyride does something similar.

There is plenty of information as to the length, terrain and overall difficulty of the routes.

Thanks. Ya know the coast very well and some nice spins around Killiney etc.

Just wanted to add a loop as oppossed to going back up the coast from Greystones.

    Thanks for the help lads.

A loop is doable, but as said before the N11 isn't the best place to cycle.

Having said that, there's a bit of a drag just before Bray, then once you've gone through the town and get back on the N11, it's pretty much all downhill once you get up the hill at Loughlinstown :)

You could head out the road above the N11 and head for Miltown, Dundrum, out through Stepaside, Enniskerry make a loop back the N11 or just head back the way you came. Always thought it was a nicer spin with few gentle hills along the way.
