Identifying signs part of test

    Hi all,

Just a quick question about the signs questions part of the test. Is there anywhere where you can get an exact replica of the chart the tester has with all the signs? From what i understand, they have a large poster with all the signs in front of them that they randomly test you from.

Or is it just a matter of trawling through pages 54-85 in the Rules of the Road book

Don't worry too much about the road signs - the rules of the road more than cover any possibility. If I was a betting man, I would say that you will be asked Clearway and Pedestrian Zone (as well as others, such as motorway ends, etc.) as those signs aren't obvious if you don't know what they are.

Could anyone tell me if I'm expected to know wet/dry stopping distances off by heart?

I've never been asked these and I've been tested in all categories bar EB/ED.

I'd hazard a guess to say that you're safe not knowing them. I think the reason they are included in the rules of the road is to impress on you how increasing your speed leads to a huge increase in the distance required to react and stop.

In my opinion, learning off the distances is a fruitless exercise - in a real life situation, knowing that stopping in an emergency on a wet road going 120km/h will take 130m isn't going to cross your mind.

But I do encourage you to understand how different conditions affect stopping distances.

This site is very interesting, as you can enter the speed, choose the road conditions, and choose the reaction time. The stopping distances at higher speeds, especially in wet and icy conditions, are frankly quite scary!

PM me your email address and I'll send you the chart I used when I was testing. Not sure if the RSA use the exact same chart but it'll be more or less the same. If anyone else wants a copy just PM me as well.
