Do lie much..........

Ok, so I'm wondering, in our modern life with everyone being busy and the like..........

Do you find yourself lying about little things and some not so big things a lot.

I've been thinking about this the last couple of days and I find I lie a lot. Not about big things, but small things like if my OH rings and I'm on my way home and running late, ill say I'm a little behind and be 15 mins late when I know ill actually be 30 mins. Another type would be work wise when asked my opinion on a potential sale, ill be deliberately over optimistic rather than give a humdrum answer, not to hide anything, but just to keep a positive spin for the office.

People often tell me that I'm the most convincing tale teller they know, I've often told people harmless little slightly ott stories about things in company with new people which friends know is made up but they are completely taken in. ( I always tell them I'm kidding)

I also embelish true stories to make them more interesting, this is a good skill in sales as it makes people think about the story and repeat it afterwards.

I also tell a lot of the normal little white lies that everyone does, but again embellished to make them more interesting.

    So ramble over.

    Do you lie much???

    (Sorry couldn't resist)
The other line is a lie.
    The other line is true.

I don't see how that gives someone a reason to lie. I don't lie simply because I don't like doing it.

Hello. I'm Leonard Nimoy. The following tale of alien encounters is true. And by true, I mean false. It's all lies. But they're entertaining lies. And in the end, isn't that the real truth? The answer is: No.

Maybe I should just give this the thumbs up, but I had to post that this made me laugh out loud at work, which might have gotten me in trouble except its my last day and I told everyone I got a funny goodbye message.

I actually dont because my memory is too bad to remember them.

Anyway, my life is very interesting anyway -so why make stuff up.

    Me too.

It's a common theme in sitcoms I notice: a lie can tie you up in knots.

Not really. I tend to tell the truth the majority of the time.

    BUT.

I can be quite adept at lying, and lie convincingly. The joys of working in hotels. I have even lied so convincingly on occasion that I believe my own lie!

I don't think "life being busy" is a reason why you should lie. But there are some times that call for a little white lie than a huge ugly truth.

    Depends on the context.

If its a little white lie, for the sake of convenience or to spare someones feelings, then usually i wont lose sleep over it.

Try not to gloss over the bigger more complicated stuff though. Easier to tackle something head on then have to lie around it. Lies and more lies = bigger mess :pac:

I don't see how a modern life and being busy has anything to do with it. I wouldn't lie to people that I truly care about but I have told quite substantial lies to my folks, hate to do it but it makes life a lot easier for me.

Tell the truth mostly, lie under certain circumstances. Would tell huge lies to spare someones feeling. Honesty isnt always the best policy.

Everybody lies. We exaggerate or understate details depending on what suits us better.

Telling someone you'll be 15 minutes late, when you know you're going to be 30 minutes late is pro forma.

I hike a lot currently, and mountaineer, and I find this is the best way to see the true colors of an individual.

I have found out that there ain't no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them.. - Mark Twain

Even standing at the trailhead, gearing up, I've gone out with people who where extolling their achievements and physical ability, only to be proved to be liars less than an hour later when they had to actually back it up for real. It astounds me that people will lie even though they know their lies are about to come under scrutiny.

From this however, I've managed to whittle down to a good group of genuine people. When your body is under a lot of stress and close to physical exhaustion nobody has the time for lying. It's in those moments that you get to see the people under the facade and whether they are true to their image or not.

until i was about 16 I lied about pretty much everything. Like, I was the kid who's dad was best mates with Kenny Dalglish, or who got singing lessons from Bruce Dickinson or I taught elvis how to play karate. dunno why i did it, I come from a loving family etc etc, I guess it was just a confidence thing. My mates all knew it was bollocks, naturally, most of them would just say nothing but the odd time they'd get pissed off and call me on it.
I knew it was a problem but couldn't stop, until I figured the best way to do it was, everytime I started telling a whopper, I'd force myself to say "actually, dunno why I'm saying that, that's a lie, forget it".
I think I only had to say it maybe three times before I got out of the habit forever.

I don't make stuff up anymore, and to be frank, if I told you some of the stuff that's happened to me, genuinely happened to me, since, you'd think I was lying now!
Obviously I'll lie to save someones feelings if its not likely to lead to any consequences (for them, not for me). But I won't lie if someone asks me a direct question (normally they know the answer before they ask the question) or lie about stuff i did or didn't do.
