    Hi

    Just discovered that you can't enter degrees minutes and seconds when inputting angles on the standard iPhone calc app. That's a major flaw IMO..

    Anyway, did some googling but didn't get anywhere.

    Anyone on here got a calc app they can recommend that definitely let's you input angles in dms format (rather than decimal degrees)?

    Thanks

    If you are doing work that requires DMS input, then I'd just get a dedicated calculator for work.

    The standard one is pretty good for general day to day use.

    That said, if you insist on wanting to use a iphone calc, then just download different one until you get one that suits. I don't know if asking people is much help as few people will have tried out other calcs

    I know that Complex RPN Calculator doesn't do DMS, but m48, does. This is an emulation of the HP 48GX that uses the actual HP ROM - and it's free. It does DMS conversions under the heading of HMS (Hours Minutes Seconds), in the Time conversion menu.
    Example: to convert 17° 13' 25.2" to decimal:
    enter 17.13252 blue-shift-4 NXT HMS->
    result: 17.22366...
    It also has HMS+ and HMS- functions in the same place, so you can add or subtract DMS without converting to decimal first.

    NB: m48 is fundamentally a RPN calculator, but it can do Algebraic style calculations if you put them in single quotes e.g. '(12+23)/2' EVAL returns 17.5 as expected. If you just hit Enter, the equation is pushed on to the stack without being evaluated, so you have to hit EVAL to get the result.

    However - I agree that an iPhone or iPod is never going to be as quick or as nice to use as dedicated hand calculator like the Casio FX-83

I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music.
