Forwarding Ports for Black Ops

Ok said I'd put this up there to try and help the dreaded connection issues some people are having, I'm on the 30 meg UPC line and had my PS3 in the DMZ on my router but after the first patch my Nat type became moderate I was like Wtf???

Anyway I did the following and I've always been open since with very limited freezing where you have to power down and restart the ps3 to fix the issue, it still happens but less often.

1st thing to do is give your PS3 a static IP address go into network settings on your PS3 this is fairly straight forward google it or follow this youtube guide

next you need to forward a couple of ports that Black Ops uses on your router, now 90% of routers you can do this I've come accross a couple that can't be done on e.g. old BT routers.

Go to the following site http://portforward.com/ and find your make and model of your router, click on the link for your router when you find it, the page that opens is usually a advertisment for the site just skip it via the link at the top right of the page the next page will show you a long list of games, look for either PS3 Call of Duty Black Ops or Xbox360 Call of Duty Black Ops and click on the game, this will bring you to a guide on how to forward ports on your model of router for Black Ops.

At the top of the page under the first paragraph you will see in Orange "Do Not Skip This Step", underneath you will see probably 192.168.1. in the box type the last section of the ip address of your ps3 e.g. 192.168.1.35 for example. The guide will show you how to log into your router and to find the port forwarding section and what ports to forward.

Hope this helps any questions post them on here.

    Thanks

I'm also with UPC and have the 30mb broadband. Same problem with NAT switching from open to strict at random times. I'm just having a problem with the port forwarding, what am I suppose to put in the boxes? Is it 192.168.1.20 then start port at say 40 end at 50. I need to set up 2 playstations and a xbox, so do I put in a different ip and start port for each? So for the second ip say 192.168.1.30 start 70 end 80. Not sure what the protocol is either. Confused at this part and tried doing it before and it didn't work.

@jet black so is the ip address of your PS3 192.168.1.20? if it is then you would put that same ip address in each box
    so it would be
local ip adr start port End port Protocol Enable
    192.168.1.20 80 81 TCP Tick
    192.168.1.20 443 443 TCP Tick
    192.168.1.20 5223 5223 TCP Tick
    192.168.1.20 3074 3074 TCP Tick
    192.168.1.20 2005 2005 UDP Tick
    192.168.1.20 3074 3074 UDP Tick
    192.168.1.20 3075 3075 UDP Tick
    192.168.1.20 3478 3478 UDP Tick

Click apply and thats you done just make sure you know the ip address of your ps3 I'm taking it that its 192.168.1.20.

hope this helps get back to me if your not clear thanks
    192.168.1.20

@Krudler give me the model of router you have? Has your ps3 got a static ip? Did you put it in the dmz on the router?

I think eircom you might have to go do a bit extra if it's the silver modem/router have a look at the following thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055329310&page=5

Lads, this isn't any different than the standard port forwarding for the xbox/ps3 right?
I already have that done, I don't think there's anything specific about black ops is there?

    Lads,

just enable uPnP on your routers.

    thats what its there for.

I get open nat with it all the time on my upc router.

also disable IP flood protection. this now constantly gives me 4 bars.
