I got it on New Years Eve, only found out during this week when I went to the college doctor that it was Swine Flu. Was barely able to move for most of that first week...

Being called Typhoid Mary at the minute as one housemate definitely got it, the other complaining of being sick the last two days and various friends who crashed are coming down with something :)

Anywho... another week of college from tomorrow...*

*I'm not the contagious one anymore, so it's fine, I checked

My mother, 20 month old daughter and myself got it at Christmas, absolutely the worst experience i've had! My daughter ended up in hospital the Wednesday before x-mas, broke my heart to see her so sick :(
Every part of me hurt like hell and the exhaustion was something else.

A question: how do you know it is the Swine flu, and not just a very bad case of some other strain?

Last winter I got sick as a dog with a bad case of flu where it went on to a bad chest infection, was literally fighting for breath. :(

Whereupon a Galway taxi driver informed me with some considerable confidence that it was indeed Swine flu that had so debilitated me. Since everyone knows that Galway taxi drivers hold the answer to the meaning of the universe, I had no choice but to accept the timely and fortuitous diagnosis, which is why I don't need to bother with the vaccine this winter...

It does, but it's efficacy isn't as strong as it would have been last year. We all had flu before Christmas, not sure of the strain though. A friend's baby was hospitalised with swine flu just before new years. There are lots of viruses about at the moment. Keep your hands washed folks!

The only way to really test whether it is N1H1 (swine) or a 'different' flu is blood test apparently. It has indicators, but nothing 100% certain.

A friend is a consultant in Limerick, and they said nearly all theatre staff have gotten the vaccine this year, (so they don't expose patients to it mainly). They said that to them it is way worse than last year, with 'healthy' people getting sicker from it, and more people ending up on ventilators.

Personally I don't do vaccines (for a few different reasons), but if people are worried, I believe Boots are doing them if you can't get them via your doc.

    Wash your hands loads :)

I got the vaccine in November 2009, so I should be alright.

If I do happen to catch it I could be in serious trouble though, I have asthma which leaves me coughing at the best of times. If I caught something like swine flu it could be dangerous.

Yeah I caught it the day before new years eve, was barley able to get out of bed for an entire week. There was a day and a half of pure hell. Just feeling as bad as you can imagine, muscle aches all over so feeling really uncomfortable in bed, constantly shivering and constantly sweating, felt like I was sweating ice cold water.

Wasnt able to sleep through it, just dropped in and out sleep during that day and a half. Couldn't do anything like watch tv, read or any gaming either, head spinning too much.

Literally no way of escaping the experience or getting my mind off it.

But again this was only for about a day and a half of the full week I was sick. The rest of the time, while I was really bad, I was at least able to surf the net on my laptop and eat bits and bobs and get better sleep.

I had bronchitis for 2 weeks then bad flu for about a week and half over xmas (after that it just felt like a cold). Duno if it was swine flu or not, but I'm still alive. Absolutely fcukin' horrible though.

Was really sick all over Christmas. I couldn't move for about a week because my muscles ached so much, my head was spinning, I had a constant headache, I was sweating like a priest in a school full of little boys, my throat was on fire, I had a cough like a hundred a day smoker & I had absolutely no appetite. Oh & the little bit of water I managed to drink came up about 15 minutes after drinking it.

I don't know if it was swine flu or the usual flu. It was horrific.

For anyone suffering with a very bad flu this time of the year I got some great advice on some health shop products that actually work...

Sambucol- Black Elderberry Extract (as used by Swine Flu patients) ideal for building up immune system and has high antioxidant levels to protect cells.

    Bioforce:
Ivy-Thyme drops - taken in a fruit juice or water
Echinaforce drops - also taken as above

And even if on antibiotics these well help strengthen your system...
