    Hi all,

    Looking for some confirmation/advice.

I'm looking at importing a Honda S2000 from the UK, valued at about €13k. The car is a 2007, unmodified. CO2 emissions are 236 g/km.

I've checked on the online VRT calculator and its telling me I would have to pay €11,500 in vrt.

Is this correct? It seems absolutely crazy..... The one thing I have to query is that the value being place on the car by the VRT site is €32,000 which is three times what i'll actually be paying...

The VRT breakdown is below. Does anyone know if the VRT reduces if you pay less? i.e. if I pay 13K which is a fraction of the value being given, will the amount of VRT due reduce by the same %?

    Thanks all.

    Breakdown of VRT Calculation
Open Market Selling Price (OMSP) determined by Revenue €57755
    Monthly adjustment+105%
    Depreciation code allocated by RevenueA2
    Odometer reading 30000 Miles
    Date of first registrationJUNE 2007
    Mileage/Kilometre reduction €0
Rate of depreciation for this vehicle47%
Current OMSP determined by Revenue €32140

    Revenue CO2 Calculation
    CO2 Emissions 235
    Rate of VRT 36%

€11,500 seems like a very good price for a 2007 S2000 in good nick... Make sure you check it over very well before purchasing.

apologies - misread the OP's OP

No. If the car was free you'd still have to pay.

Cheers lads, thats what I thought. The worst has been confirmed so, 2007 is out, I wouldnt be willing to pay that much VRT.

Looks like i'll have to go for an older model. Probably a 2002 which equates to about 4k in VRT and would cost about 9k euros to buy. Can still get excellent cars for 2002's, mileage in or around 40k.

Another question someone might know and again I suspect the obvious answer might be the right one... would a UK garage take an Irish reg car as a trade in? (Annoyingly enough my current car came from the UK and was vrt'd)

Other than this, I'll look into a garage over here buying it in for me and trading against that.

if the car was originality on UK plates, the its very easy to transfer it back ti the original reg, just one form needs filled and a 30 quid fee.

Sorry to hijack the thread OP!

out of interest, what form is this, or where could it be obtained?

I got a car up north 2 years ago,vrt paid etc. and was thinking of buying up there again and try selling privately here, but if I could trade it in with a dealer across the border happy days.
