    Definitely vodafone by far.

Sign up to vodafone 360 and you get data at the lovely rate of 39c a day for 100mb. Works out about €12 a month for 3gb

I was wondering about getting this myself, do you not have to purchase a 360 approved handset to be able to get the 36c a day tariff?

Yep, iPhone is one of them :D

Using it on my iPhone right now.

Oh great! Did you upgrade to iPhone and get that deal or are you just able to jump onto the tariff if you have an iPhone?

I switched from 3 to vodafone and was able to avail of it. Apparantly as long as you have a compatible handset you can use away.

Although, it didn't sign me up properly the first couple months. It was still charging me the full 99c a day so I rang vodafone and they happily signed me up properly and credited my account back with all the money I had been wrongly charged :)

Too easy to go over the 100mb, then you get crucified.

I had absolutely no problem getting on this tariff (39c). Type of handset didn't seem to matter squat.

The 5€ for 500mb from 3 is one of the best and bundles can be queued in advance, which avoids any nasty out-of-bundle charges.

For heavier users, you could get a Vodafone PAYG, put 30€ on and get 36: this gives you unlimited calls and SMS to other Vodafone subs. THEN, convert 20€ of that into the data add-on. You will now have:

    16€ credit.
Free Voice/SMS to all Vodafone customers
5GB of data for the month.

    Not too shabby.

Can you get 5GB of data on your phone for €20, I thought that this offer was only available for the USB Mobile Broadband?

Absolutely no problem: you simply do it all online. For the add-on, just apply it in the extras section of your account at vodafone.ie.

    Thanks for that culabula.

I may stop this topping up by €30 a month to get a measly 250mb a month!

Do you know if you can tether this 5GB allowance?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,154 ✭✭✭the whole year inn

Whats 50mb on the iphone like, doesnt seem like you can browse alot with it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 570 ✭✭✭mfield

I just checked it there and it seems that the add on is for tethering to another device only. Bastardos.
    Domestic Mobile Broadband Extras

This add on covers data usage through an external access point, such as a computer, netbook or modem. It doesn't cover browsing the internet on your phone, which will be charged for separately at the usual mobile internet rates.

You can do whatever you like with it :-) use it in a Mifi, iPhone, iPad, anything. Tether, share and so on. Use the ISP APN for best results, use the live APN abroad (to use some of it, at a premium).

OK, I must me slightly soft in the head :)

So, if I switch to this ad-on I actually CAN use this 5GB for fluting about on the net etc. on my iPhone contrary to what they say on the website?

They say that? I have used it without problem in iPhone, iPad, N95 and MiFi.

Do you use the ISP Access point instead of the Live one?

Within the State while on Vodafone, I used the ISP APN. One night I put it in my iPad at Busaras and streamed a movie from my Mac in Belfast to it. I watched without interruption until the handover at Newry, where I, somewhat wisely, stopped.

What's the advantage of using the ISP over the Live APN?

I'm signed up for Vodafone 360 so I think I'm stuck with the Live APN anyway. Just wondering if there's any difference!

The Live APN is (allegedly)somewhat crippled -though I have not encountered any frustrations using it - plus the isp APN is capable of higher speeds and most ports open.

Ah I see, thanks for that.

Do you know if I'd be able to use that APN while using Vodafone 360's 39c a day tariff?

I think it is a condition of using 360 that you use the Live! APN.

Thanks for all the info culabula!

So how do you choose to go onto either Live! APN or isp APN?

You edit it in settings/general/network (Vodafone IRL may hide this, am not sure. It can certainly be edited on iPad).

I think it can be edited on earlier FW but I'm on 4.2.1 and there's no option to do it.

It's not so much 4.2.1 as Vodafone......I can edit O2 UK or giffgaff or O2 IRL using the same FW, but not 3IRL.

The same SIM in an iPad may be edited.

    Consider it set to live.vodafone.com

If your friend REALLY wants the old stupid keypad he can use the Japanese 10-key keyboard, but, really it's time to move on and man up and use QWERTY. Take the stabilisers off.

I was using DataMan but it doesn't work because if it did, I wouldn't be down €50.

Dataman is perfectly accurate. I checked my usage there against My3 daily prior to the onset of #AYCE data and it always mirrored it exactly.

I dunno then, it never alerted me when I got hammered out of all my credit. I read the reviews and some people were saying they've had problems after 4.2.1.

Oh well. Have never had any issues. But best never to rely on 100mb. I've had loads of credit wiped out abroad in an instant. This situation has got to improve.

Isn't it unreal that they don't send you a text or cut you off, scheming feckers.

This is why I think I'm going to get the 5GB a month and use that once my 250MB runs out. I stream from Soundcloud alot when I'm out and about and that's why I think it's the best way to go. What ya reckon c?
