    There, They're and Their
These three words sound the same, but they are spelt differently, and mean different things.
    * There is about place. There it is! Over there!
    * Their is about belonging. The children keep their books in their desks.
    * They're is short for they are.

Mixing up 'being' and 'been' is another cracking one people can't get their head around.

Is it actually deserts? I always thought it was desserts, but I guess neither makes sense.

    Too - as well as
    To - going somewhere
Two - the number after one.

Op, you realise that you're preaching to the choir here? It's only grammar Nazis who are checking out this thread? Mostly to chortle at the spelling and punctuation mistakes of other self-styled pedants

It's from an old form of 'deserved' which isn't used anymore. Nothing to do with ice-cream!

    Here's a topical one:

Its Brian Cowen not Brian Cowan...

    Come on people.

This google search alone returns a lot of results:
    "brian cowan" site boards.ie

    Just sayin...

the term "grammer nazi" is ridiculous in itself. People should have been taught the correct use of such basic words in school. It isnt much to ask especially in a corporate/ professional enviornment where individuals are incapable of using such words as too, to and two in the correct context!!

i know. and they then question the lieracy levels in ireland compared to that of europe. its the basics which establish a base on which to build fluency and just all round competancy in the language. this goes for both irish and english.
