Fender strat neck on squier body?

Just looking for some feedback on this, its for a guitar project. I have a strat neck in pretty good condition and am now looking for a body, will there really be a huge difference if I just settle for the cheaper squier option?

Do the holes to connect both match up properly? I suppose what I'm asking is what are the basic differences between the squier and strat bodys....is it just the quality of the materials used in their construction or are there discrepancies with the various dimensions etc also?

The problem with squier bodies is that their dimensions and specs have varied quite a lot of the years but AFAIK the current range of squiers with mate with a proper Fender neck fine.

Squiers have really been stepping up their quality as of late so I wouldnt think there would be a huge sonic difference between a squier body and a standard Fender body, plus it would give you more money for a decent set of electronics :)

Be careful. My recent enough squire classic 50's strat neck, is slimmer than my Fender Mex 60's strat. The slot in the body is smaller than the mex fender. get your measuring tape out and make sure before buying.

Thanks guys, I'm starting to wonder if I'd be better off forking out the extra money and just get a strat body. Gettin a cheap squire is all well and good but if it doesnt fit then trying to return it etc, just be too awkward.

Fender bodies can be gotten quite cheap off Ebay. I bought this one recently (still waiting for it to be delivered) for €160 which included trem, pickguard and pots:
