Simple question : Rent Allowance

    Can you get rent allowance if you want to rent of your grandmother(Gran, Nan, Granny...etc).

    If yes, would you get the full amount as to someone renting from an agency?

    Renting from a parent: You will not get Rent Supplement to help you pay rent to your parent if you are living in the family home. If your parent owns a second property, you will generally not get Rent Supplement to rent this property from them unless it is a bona fide tenancy and you are assessed as having a housing need. Your parent must also be able to prove that they have a history of renting this property.


    I don't know if it would be the same if you are renting from a grandparent.

    in the area i live in there is strictly no rent supplement paid to any property owned by any family member, including grandparents aunts uncles or cousins.

    So there is no chance of getting rent allowance for it?

    She is moving to a different area to rent a house there.
