was talking to a friend down the pub, currently he drives a nice exec spec accord auto petrol, it will be due nct, in June/July timeframe..

he was looking at reducing motoring costs  by buying a new diesel/petrol car, that uses less fuel, cheaper tax, insurance ...

i asked him had he any issues with the car, answer was no no problems running perfectly.

he has the cash to spend,

so my advice to him was , i told him to keep the car, why trade it in for half nothing, and give someone else a good reliable car for peanuts, also why trade in a car with a great reliability record, for possible DMF, DPF issues in the future...

    what do you think?

If he has the money then why not?

Spending a fortune to save a small amount only is a justification for getting a newer car.

Am in slightly similar position have a 05 mini 130 kms up due nct, have never had a days problems with it but does like its petrol, have been quoted 15 for a new focus but feel its a lot of cash to pay for something that will be worth 13 by next year, only but is my car needs service, 2 new tyres and road tax so am looking at a grand there straight out!
