Ipad 2+ Iphone 5 hardware rumours and possible specs

The iPhone 5 is "to get completely re-designed". This is very interesting as I consider the iPhone 4 a complete re-design of previous generations. Possible result of Antennagate last year.

The built in SD Card reader isn't completely shocking, as they already support it via the external Connection Kit. Im sure it will only act as a method to transfer photos, rather than be a method to increase the capacity of the iPad. But still nice to have it all the same, and who knows what Jailbreakers will be able to do with it.

I'm not that surprised by this. I don't believe Apple licensed the Liquid Metal technology with a view to working on a design to incorporate it into it's products, I'd be more inclined to believe that Apple had already worked on that design process, decided they wanted to proceed, and then licensed the technology. If the Liquid Metal doesn't impair the radio signals for phone calls and data, then I would expect to see the iPhone 5 replace the glass back with a metal one, and if it can act as an antenna, they'd use it on the sides as well to encase the iPhone with it. Possibly the same with the iPad 2, remove the need for that strip of plastic on the 3G models. Of course, I've only ever used Liquid Metal on a tennis racquet, so I've no idea what it's properties are when it comes to radio signals, but if it doesn't block them I'd expect it to be used in the next generation due out this year.

Hmmm yes forgot about that, even though their was a rumour that it would only be used for the batteries of the iPhone if I remember correctly.

The do seem to be investigating designing batteries using the technology. While I have no doubt that rumour is true, I'd be amazed if they paid out all that money for an exclusive license just to do research into possible future uses.

I’m finding it very difficult to make my decision.
On one hand, there is massive support in terms of the apps for Ipad. Price is good compared to Tab. Let face it there is nothing out there yet as good as Ipad. Would only be interested in Wi-Fi one. UI is good. On the other hand, no flash support is a huge issue for me. So it narrows down do i want Ipod gigantor and then still have to use my macbook for flash sites.. Aaagggghhhh..

FF, there are many websites that have an app to work around the Apple limitation to run flash based content. The main example is youtube.

Why is flash so important for you? Perhaps an alternative has already been developed?

lack of flash is the no.1 reason i just purchased a netbook instead of an ipad.. I want to be able to stream rteplayer, 4OD etc.. I'll admit to being a mac fangirl but my head overruled my heart in this decision..

still lots of videos etc on youtube with flash...
It's not really a major pain but damnit I want flash in the next iphone+ipad.
I'd still go for the iphone if it hasn't but will definitely be going for an android tablet if the ipad2 doesn't support flash.
Although they are rumours that Jobs backed down and will allow flash for the next releases.

its what i would use it for. :)
Ipad/Tablet for me would be primary entertainment gadget. it would be coffee table accessory sort of. Pick it up read magazine or a book but I would primarily use it for RTE player, TV3 player, 4OD player and to play facebook game. None of this is possible without flash.
I really really want Ipad2 but it’s too expensive without full web support.
There are rumours that they might allow Flash and i do hope this is correct, will have to wait and see.

if you got a ipad2 and already have a ipad 1 and want to sell the first what do you need to do?
Is it reset the ipad 1, register the ipad 2 with your itunes account and will it know what apps you had one ipad 1 or you have to download them again?
What will happen to ipad 1 for the next buyer, will it be the same register with itunes thing that you had to do when it was new?

Flash will never be on an iPad until they sort their security issues.

I'd be very surprised if RTE and 4OD don't have apps before the end of the year though. TV3 already have one.

I think ipad will never have flash support, full stop.
There are many ios based games that can easily replace the ones on offer on FB.
If flash is so important, perhaps you should consider the galaxy tab or one of the win7 tabs?
Other option is to install an app called frash, that is availble from Cydia. It does reproduce some flash contents but it is still very clunky.

Galaxy tab is too small and all the other tablets are fairly crap compared to the ipad...I was looking for a android one but there's nothing yet that comes close
I'm heading to Poland for a week in 2 weeks time (work) and could do with a tablet for watching movies etc in the hotel room.
But even some of the second hand ipads are looking for a ridiculous price..I'm mad to get one but damnit..the v2 is out in 3 months max..

As long as your iPad is backed up, then iTunes should give you the option of 'restoring' your iPad 2. This would copy all your content to the new iPad as it looked before. All your content is linked to your Apple account, rather than an individual machine. (please take note Nintendo)

Also if have to redownload apps for any reason, you won't be charged for them again. But thiss does not apply to music/films - make sure you back these up onto your PC/Mac and you will be able to transfer them across for free. If you have to download these again for any reason, then you will have to pay for them again.

If you sold your iPad, the new owner would simply log it to their apple account and all their content would be transfered over.

I have tv3 app for my iphone , and as a pay app its very poor IMO. They only have very limited catch up line-up, nothing even close to catch up service they have on their web site.
As far as I know there will be nothing coming from RTE (friend works in rte) , 4OD might come or not.

I’m going to wait for Ipad 2 to come out then see if there are apps or proper flash support. Samsung Tab is too small for me, other serious contenders will be Xoom and Notion Ink Adam but only after I compare them to whatever is going to be Ipad 2

So we are on the same boat then. I agree on your comments about the other tablets, they are still way behind.
I am not buying neither a 1st gen new nor a 1st gen second hand as I will be regreting it.
I will 99% buy the ipad 2 though and, although it will not support Flash, I know it can offer plenty to keep me entertained.

Let's countdown together then. I decided I wanted one approx back in Oct-November.

I threw in the towel and bought the 32gb wifi model today :)
I'm heading away overseas with work for a week or so and I wanted something decent to watch videos/browse etc on so said to myself" buy it now and flog it in a few months when the new one comes out" I'll happily take the hit of say a €100 on it..

I was tempted by the Samsung Galaxy and would prob have plumped for that if it was 10 inch insteadf of 7

I think you're being very optimistic about only taking a hit of €100. There won't be too many people who will pay the same amount for a second hand 32gb iPad1 as they could get a brand new 16gb iPad2 for (assuming current price points remain), or pay about €100 more for a second hand 32gb iPad1 as they could get a brand new 16gb iPad1 (assuming they repeat the iPhone method of keeping the last model as an entry level device at a cheaper price point).

I'd prob flog it for about €450...
now considering that the 32gb one will cost around €599 ppl would still go for the first version to save a few bob..at least I hope..and if not..ah well :)

Apple iPad 2 release date imminent as iPad price drops

"Apple iPad price dropped ahead of iPad 2 unveiling

Apple’s second-generation tablet, the mooted iPad 2, is expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks as a number of UK network providers lower the price of the original iPad.

With price drops frequently used to flush out old stocks ahead of an updated product arrival, the move by Everything Everywhere partners Orange and T-Mobile to reduce the price of the iPad has sparked much speculation of an imminent iPad 2 announcement."
