    Hi everyone,

What are the chances of a female getting HIV after having sex with condom but it fell off part way through just for a minute?

    Worried :(

Well the first question that must be asked is do you know if the person you were having sex with is HIV positive? If not, why specifically focus on that, there are more STIs than just HIV. Regardless of what anyone may tell you regarding the odds of contracting something, the only way you'll know for sure is to go to your GP or an STI clinic and get yourself tested.

Not wishing to sound "smart" but the % probability is unimportant. Whatever it is, it's a number greater than 0%, so take the guesswork out of it and have yourself checked at an STI clinic.

    Be at peace,

Get an STI test. If you want to particularly look for HIV you must wait three months since the incident though, as that's when it can first be detected.

You're probably worrying yourself over nothing though. As Zaph said: First of all, the person would have to have HIV for you to catch it. Also, HIV is much harder to catch than one might think.... Look up any medical journal and look at the statistics. I am not advocating unsafe sex with what I just said btw, but it's in-fact quite hard to catch. I would worry more about other STIs.

Get a test and try not to look at too many online sources pertaining to symptoms or such like, since it will probably make you worry far too much. It's a pointless practice.

    Good luck!

Thank you for your replies. I did try to be safe but it happened and I guess I'll just have to wait now.

    Thanks again!

Do not wait!! If that person has HIV you have to get yourself to your GP/clinic immediately as medication to irradicate the virus must be started to stop it developing. wait three months to find out and you wont be able to get rid of it. GO!

    here's a link to what the medication entails;

This. Go to the doctor NOW. He/she will assess your risk and decide whether it's worth starting antiviral treatment. I assume you don't know whether the person has HIV or not. You also need to get checked out for other STI's in 2 to 3 weeks - don't wait 3 months to find out if you have chlamydia or gonorrhea. These would be my main concerns, tbh.

Apparently in the UK 80% of people have HPV and I read before that it's around 50% in Ireland so chances are high enough...though I think you can only contract it if it's inflammed on the sex partner. You can also get it when the partner is wearing a condom though so...always taking a chance with that one

    OP,

I wouldn't be too worried unless you have reason to think the person you slept with is high risk.

If your partner was HIV+, and ejaculated inside you, your chances of contracting it are about 1 in 100....again, assuming your partner was HIV+

If he did't ejaculate in you, and as soon as condom ripped, you replaced it with a new one then your chances are miniscule.

If you have reasson to think this guy has HIV (i.e is an IV drug user, sleps around alot without condoms etc, or if he is bi-sexual etc(reason being thats if he has slept with other men, possibly without protection-HIV is about 10 times more likely to infect through anal sex vs. vaginal sex), then follow others advice and see a doc .

Regardless of how remote the chances are, there's still always a chance and going to a doctor is really the only way of finding out.

If anyone's wondering that's human papilloma virus - nothing to do with HIV.

HPV is invisible aside from warts so that thing about being inflamed is meaningless

The 50% was said to a friend by a doctor. The 80% was from an article I read in an English paper...can't find it again, it's probably online. Some actress was talking out about the risk of cancer by oral..due to contracting HPV..
