    Anyone got one?

The website lists a 4x4, 170 bhp Elegance model for about €37k - gret value for the trim level.

Since BMW and VW dont seem to offer 4wd saloons here it might be a nice choice.

Also took a look at the Octavia Scout - looks like a shrunk down version of the Audi Allroad or Volvo XC70.

    Anyone driven these?

The Skoda badge doesn't bother me anymore, and there is simply no point imo in having a car here with any more power.

Id imagine that the new Passat would be getting a 4x4 option at some point but having said that I would take the Superb over the Passat any day.

Id love to book a few test drives just for the sake of it and see what they are like.

The elegance spec superb comes with everything you would want and more than you would expect.

Don't really like the scouts and I don't think their appearance will age well.

Ish. Bizarrely, the 4x4 doesn't seem to be available in automatic.

Would the deprecation be bad on one of them?
I like the look of them.

That is odd. If you really need the 4 wheel drive, as in you're often going to be in situations where you need it you're better off with a manual anyway. Doesn't really excuse not offering it though!

I need an awd estate, but automatic is a non-negotiable for me.:)

Not in the 170 TDI I think.

For both Skoda and Passats I believe 4wd is only an option in auto with the 140 hp variant engine.

The Insignia tourer is available in 4x4, and the last time I checked, an SE 160bhp with extras could be bought cheaper than the Superb (only done this exercise recently).

Its also available in Auto guise if you wanted that.

Combi is an estate. Not sure the looks of the scout are to everyones taste.
other options for 4wd or awd are legacy, forester, yeti, ix35, insignia, a4 and i would say some would be available a good bit less than 37k

A 2.0DCi Qashqai 4x4 would probably come in well under that budget too

I believe there is one in the Country, and the delighted driver collected it off me at 13.30 on Friday afternoon.

It performed heroically for me on the 100m drive from the garage to the front of the building :D

Actually the first Combi we've had in, and I'm surprised at how small the load area is. Won't be carrying any grandfather clocks in it like you would in a V70, but it's more than adequate for most family use.

The driver mailed me when he got home to say he was very pleased with how it drove. He should get a chance to test the 4x4 capability of it later in the month.

He's also on here, so you might get an update from the horses mouth.

The info on Carzone regarding the transmission is a bit confusing, but I'm told it's an auto. However, he also said the 2WD demo model I currently have is a 2.3 180bhp, but the engine is listed as 2.2 with 156bhp. Have the specification in the car so will see whether Carzone is correct.

    http://www.carzone.ie/new-cars/Mitsubishi/Outlander/2.2-DID-INTENSE-4WD/746526120101201/

For 4 or 5 people and luggage, an estate would be a better choice. For 7 people a people carrier would be a better choice. But if the requirements are 4x4 and auto, it might fit the bill at a reasonable ish cost.

The 2wd version is fairly decent to drive. Much less body roll in corners than the X-Trail I've been in. Doesn't feel like it's going to fall over like the Pajero Sport I had. Decent standard kit too. Huge amounts of torque steer in 2nd gear under hard acceleration, but the 4wd would sort that out.

If Subaru do an auto Forrester that would be a better investment, but I don't think they've got that with the Diesels yet.

    Edit***
Checked the specifications in the Outlander this morning. It is a 2.2DID engine and the 2WD puts out 177ps. The 4x4 is an Auto, but only puts out 156ps for some reason.
