    Hey guys,
would you have any advice on adding to your cv before the next milkround? At that stage ill be doing a postgrad in accounting, but are there any other certifications etc. that would prove useful? Starting ECDL next week. Thanks

ECDL? That's not something I'd put down on my CV. It's assumed you're competent at MS office basics along with internet. If you're going big 4 definitely don't put it down. If you had more specific skills like visual basic then I'd bang it down.

Whatever way you do up your cv/online application make sure you make it look like you're able to work in teams and able to adapt quickly.

I'd advise you doing a beginners language course. That will be of far more benefit to you compared to a basic ms office certification.

Im very competent with MS Office and other packages, but its hard to prove that without certification no?

    Eh, disagree somewhat.

Put down your ECDL, it shows a commitment to developing yourself and its still a worthwhile certification. Its clear evidence that you have skilled up and are technically capable.
I'm at a Big 4, you wouldn't believe how many people here are criminally retarded with basic MS Office use..

I went through the milk round this year. I put ECDL down on my CV but it was never brought up at the interview stage as far as I can remember. In at least one of the application forms they did have a section where you have to detail your level IT competency in different areas such as Access, Powerpoint and so on. So it would be handy to have there.

Other than that, in my experience they were more interested in relevant work experience than certs. Also extra-curricular activities and hobbies were important as many of them just asked generic "Tell me about yourself" type of questions. Have a mix of academic and non-academic achievements on your CV and you'll be fine.

I did ECDL in 4th year and didnt even bother putting it on my CV when I did the milkround. I just put in that I was skilled in Word, Powerpoint and Excel because I use them all the time in my college course for presentations and we do some accountancy exams through excel which is true. But Im sure it wont hurt to do it.

I do think that you should spend your time developing your extra curricular activities. Team sports are always good ones to have so that you're not just giving examples of when you worked on a college project etc. in your interview
