Electrical Problem

    Hi folks,

Another day another probelem with my car, and I am throwing my problem out to boards land to see if anyone has any solutions. Car is ford mondeo 2005 ST TDCI 2.2ltr

Last night my wife was using the car, went to training locked the car using the remote central locking at about 7.30pm. Came back and unlocked the cars with the keyys at about 9.3o, she was in the car for a few minutes putting gear in it and then went to lock the car again with the remote control and nothing would lock. So she locked the drivers door with the key but no other doors would lock with the central locking, meaning that the drivers door was locked but all other passenger doors were unlocked. Then this morning she told me and went to the manual to try and reset the central locking but would not work, nor could i reprogramme the keys the way the manual told me to. When i started up the car the rev counter and speedo went all the way around to the right before resetting to normal positions and the rev counter going to idle. The clock had also stopped working, 7.35pm. The wife used the car again this morning, afer i tried to reset the alarm. When she came back she said that the electric windows were not working, checked and none of them are working.

I checked all the other electrics in the car, lights, indicators, wipers, radio etc and all work fine. When i was trying to lock the car with the remote earlier i could hear a switch in the dash going but nothing happening. When you press the unlock button on the ley fob the indicator lights come on as normal. Now i have not checked the fusebox so thats next on the list but i feel that this maybe a deeper electrical problem. The car battery was replaced about a month ago and the alternator was replaced i think March of last year. they are the only electrical problems that i have had with the car so far.

    so anyone any ideas?

    thanks burger

Gem module. Its up at the drivers footwell up at the right hand side. They can give trouble. But you will have to bring it to a garage and see as it can be lots of things.

If you have your radio code, disconnect the battery for around 30 minutes and see if normal operations are restored thereafter. If not, the car will need to be diagnosed properly as a number of things can cause this problem. GEM module is likely, but a dash fault can interfere with the CAN bus and cause similar unusual symptoms. Does your car have those HID headlamps by any chance?

Cheers for the replies. What is a GEM Module??? Think i will disconnect the battery in the morning and see if resets anything, have the radio code so will report back. Not got HID lamps just standard. Also checked the fuses but nothing there. Also quick question, over the alst few days i have heard a switch behind the dash going on and off when the intermittant wipers are on, does anyone know if this is part of the GEM Modules too?

    will let you all know.

    cheers burger

Thats just a relay clicking, it happens all the time when you put the wipers on. Just bring it to a garage, thats the only thing to do here.

Well had a look at the car last night and it seems that someone attempted to rob it. The wiring loom between the drivers door and the car iteslf had been cut with about 90% of the wires inside it also cut. No signs of forced entry into car or any markings around the door itself to show that a serrated edge had been used. Just got a price of €240 from Ford to get it replaced. Has anyone ever changed out a loom like that before? if so was it a big job/easy to do etc. etc. The part itself is only €116 so i can save myself a bit of money then i'll do it myself. this may not rectify the problems with the car but its a start.

    thanks Burger

Probably tried to hot wire it but you can't, scumbags. Never replaced one but maybe ford will have to program something if they disconnect the old one from an ECU or something.

yeah maybe its just annoying to have to fork out for it. i dont want to leave it any longer than i have to, not got any locking on the doors. ah think i'll just bite the bullet and pay for it.
