Ebay Selling Advice

    Hi folks,
I've only ever bought stuff on ebay. With all of the stories I have read online with people getting screwed over when selling, i thought its best not to bother. But I took the plunge and put an item up for sale yesterday.
There is already a bid placed on it but of course its from a new user which could be legit but im skeptical as I got a query from someone wanting to deal outside of the action.

Just wondering what I should look out for to avoid getting screwed.
I have paypal as the method of payment, or cash on collection should they choose to collect. If however I have to post it and receive cash via paypal, im aware that if I cannot prove delivery, then i lose out should the buyer raise a claim. From my experience, an post often dont take signatures for registered packages.. Just wondering how can i get around this to avoid potential complications..

    Thanks

Dont deal outside the deal anyway you will have no comeback, you can also set up your account to not accept bids from new users (i think) Also depending on the price of the item request enough to cover registered post. But even with registered post it only shows the envelope got there they can still claim the package was empty.

let them pay with paypal you should have no trouble then send the item once the money has been transferred to your account your better of not dealing outside and once someone has bidded you cant sell it to someone else

    Hi

if you sell on ebay they obviously take a fee and so does paypal so if you sell something for 50 euro you might get 45 or less, does that sound right?

also what happens if you sell a lot of items, will ebay or paypal or both be required to notify revenue?

    I always wondered about that!

    Happy Christmas

Distance selling in the EU occurs when a supplier in one EU Member State sells goods to a person in another Member State who is not registered for VAT and the supplier is responsible for the delivery of the goods. It includes mail order sales, phone or tele-sales or physical goods ordered over the internet.

    Thresholds

Under the EU VAT arrangements, Member States were required to adopt a distance sales threshold of either €35,000 or €100,000. Ireland has opted for €35,000.

The €35,000 limit is for the likes of amazon.co.uk where they have to register and pay Irish VAT when somebody from here orders.

I know a guy who sells on ebay in the UK and he got notified by ebay that they were obliged to report him to revenue since he had sold over a certain amount and so he should be registered as a sole trader (or something along those lines). I am not sure of this amount but its not really the same as the 35,000 limit and was definitely lower than that.
